ABOUT

The Slaying of Innocence is a multidisciplinary music-theatre work developed by Beth Morrison Projects that centers the stories and lived experiences of currently and formerly incarcerated Black artists. Blending poetry, rap, music, movement, and visual storytelling, the work examines systemic racism within the American criminal justice system while exploring themes of identity, family, freedom, and hope.

As Associate Producer, Alexis Peart works closely with the project's currently and formerly incarcerated artists, helping to develop and facilitate a collaborative, devised-theatre process through which they generate original creative work and production materials. For many of these artists, the project marks their first opportunity to create work for a professional theatrical production. Her role encompasses artistic development, creative collaboration, and production planning as the project moves toward its anticipated 2027 world premiere at ArtsEmerson.
